BREVE presents Renaissance and Baroque Masterpieces / Christmas Carols

On Sunday, December 15th, the Baton Rouge Early Vocal Ensemble (BREVE) will present an evening of a capella Renaissance and Baroque masterpieces and a selection of traditional Christmas carols on Gaudete.

BREVE is one of the few early music ensembles in the state of Louisiana. The group is dedicated to the performance and promotion of lesser-known works from the sixteenth through eighteenth centuries. Its vocalists come from all walks of life – from educators to lawyers, church musicians to students, and young professionals.

BREVE was selected to perform at the Louisiana American Choral Director’s Association Conference in 2013 and 2015. The ensemble presents two concerts each year during Christmas and Lent.

Dr. William Plummer, BREVE founder and artistic director, is the Director of Choral Activities at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he conducts the Ragin’ Cajun Women’s Choir, the UL Lafayette Chorale, and the Chamber Singers. He also teaches advanced choral conducting, choral literature, and graduate-level courses for the choral conducting degree.

This holiday even is an annual program held at the historic Bayou Goula church, which is 1.8 miles upriver from Nottoway Plantation and Resort and 7.3 miles south of Plaquemine. Built in 1871, the church was nearly destroyed during Hurricane Gustav. It has been undergoing restoration by the Friends of the St. Paul Church, LLC, who host and organize this annual community event.

Suggested donations are $25 per person and will be accepted at the door, with 100% of all funds collected going directly to the remaining restoration of the church.
