Town of Maringouin

Believed to have been settled by Acadians in 1802, the Town of Maringouin was officially incorporated in 1907 and is primarily a farming community. By the early 1920’s the town had concrete roads. French explorers named Maringouin (“mosquito”) for the pesky swarms of the insect which is predominant in south Louisiana

Maringouin is the largest community of North Iberville and is located at the tip of the parish. The town is closely aligned with nearby parishes of Pointe Coupee and East Baton Rouge. Fishing and paddling opportunities are abundant and easily accessible through nearby Bayou Grosse Tete and the Atchafalaya Basin. Home to the historic Tanglewild, with its architectural charm, this picturesque attraction is worthy of a drive-by. Today, Maringouin’s rural setting amidst the huge live oaks, Bayou Grosse Tete and picture-perfect open green pastures make it a paradise for those seeking the quiet life.
